What the programme is
The e-Postgraduate Diploma in Interaction Design (ePGD IxD) is offered by the IDC School of Design at IIT Bombay under its Educational Outreach. It is built for working professionals who want to master human-centred design through hands-on projects, covering the digital product lifecycle from ideation and user research to prototyping and launch.
You earn the diploma by completing 36 credits from the prescribed courses within three years. Courses carry 6 to 12 credits each, and the programme overview says learners choose five or six courses from eight. The programme page states that the diploma is recognised by World Education Services (WES).

The dates for Human Factors and Game Design differ by a day between sections of the page, but both start on 4 June, so they overlap. Registration for the Trimester 1, 2027 in-person courses is open, with limited seats allocated first come, first served and payment due before course selection.
Planning your 36 credits
Because Design of Interactive Products is 12 credits and the rest are 6, a 36-credit plan is either that course plus four 6-credit courses, or six 6-credit courses. Here is one example of how a January 2027 start could fit the published calendar — check with the programme team whether you can take this many courses within a single year.
| Order | Course | Credits | Dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Data Visualization (online) | 6 | 9 Jan – 14 Feb 2027 |
| 2 | Quantitative Research Methods (online) | 6 | 20 Feb – 28 Mar 2027 |
| 3 | Theoretical Perspectives (online) | 6 | 3 Apr – 9 May 2027 |
| 4 | Design of Interactive Products (in-person) | 12 | 18 May – 2 Jun 2027 |
| 5 | Introduction to VR and AR (in-person) | 6 | 14 – 21 Jun 2027 |
| Total | 36 |
- Research-led: keep the research and data courses together, then finish with an in-person studio course
- Studio-led: pick Human Factors or Game Design for early June, not both, since they overlap
- Travel: even online courses need an in-person presentation, exam or assessment at IIT Bombay, so plan campus visits for every course
Fee and payment
| Course size | Amount including GST | When you pay |
|---|---|---|
| 6 credits | ₹59,000 | Online: within 30 days of the start of sessions. In-person: before course selection |
| 12 credits | ₹1,18,000 | Online: within 30 days of the start of sessions. In-person: before course selection |
| 36 credits in total | ₹3,54,000 | ₹3,00,000 + 18% GST |
You pay course by course rather than all at once, which makes the outlay easier to plan. The page does not say whether travel and stay for campus visits are covered, so budget for them separately and ask the programme team.
Assessment and passing
- Assessments include home assignments, course projects, quizzes, vivas and a final examination
- To pass a course you need at least 50% overall and 40% in the final assessment
- In-person attendance is mandatory for the end-of-course assessments
Who it suits
- Interaction, UI and UX designers who want to lead digital product design
- Design professionals from other disciplines moving into interaction design
- Product managers who want to align design with business strategy — see our product management career guide
- Software professionals with UI experience but no formal design training
- Faculty in design or engineering who want to teach interaction design
Things to weigh
- It is a diploma, not a degree
- The fixed trimester calendar and limited in-person seats need early planning
- The programme page does not promise placement or career outcomes — treat it as structured skill-building and an IIT Bombay credential
